Graph Manifolds Z-homology 3-spheres and Taut Foliations
We show that a graph manifold which is a Z-homology 3-sphere not homeomorphic to either S or Σ(2, 3, 5) admits a horizontal foliation. This combines with known results to show that the conditions of not being an L-space, of having a left-orderable fundamental group, and of admitting a co-oriented taut foliation, are equivalent for graph manifold Z-homology 3-spheres.
متن کاملEMBEDDED MINIMAL SPHERES IN 3 - MANIFOLDS by Joel Israel Kramer
Consider the following question: Does there exist a three-manifold M for which, given any riemannian metric on M there is an area bound for embedded minimal spheres? We answer this question negatively, and, in fact, find an open set of metrics for which this question is false. This generalizes similar results for surfaces of positive genus shown by W. Minicozzi, T. Colding and B. Dean. In addit...
متن کاملInvariants of Closed 3–Manifolds via Nullhomotopic Filling Dehn Spheres
We provide a calculus for the presentation of closed 3–manifolds via nullhomotopic filling Dehn spheres and we use it to define an invariant of closed 3–manifolds by applying the state-sum machinery. As a potential application of this invariant, we show how to get lower bounds for the Matveev complexity of P–irreducible closed 3–manifolds. We also describe an easy algorithm for constructing a n...
متن کاملCmc Surfaces In
This paper presents a unified treatment of constant mean curvature (CMC) surfaces in the simply-connected 3-dimensional space forms R 3 , S 3 and H 3 in terms of meromorphic loop Lie algebra valued 1-forms. We discuss global issues such as period problems and asymptotic behaviour involved in the construction of CMC surfaces with non-trivial topology. We prove existence of new examples of comple...
متن کاملInteractional Coherence in CMC
Text-only CMC has been claimed to be interactionally incoherent due to limitations imposed by messaging systems on turn-taking and reference, yet its popularity continues to grow. In an attempt to resolve this apparent paradox, this study evaluates the coherence of computermediated interaction by surveying research on cross-turn coherence. The results reveal a high degree of disrupted adjacency...
